Acrostic Activity
In an acrostic poem, a key word is written vertically on the paper and each letter of the word becomes the first letter of a line in the poem. I usually model an example on the board so I can be sure everyone understands the directions. Also, I usually assign the type of words I want my students to use. For example, holidays, months, their names, etc.
Here are the directions:
- Choose a word and write it vertically on your paper.
- For each letter of the word, begin a line of poetry.
- After you are finished, type the poem and use a different font or color for the first letter of each line to highlight the acrostic word.

Beautiful country down here
